Hard chrome is an industrial repair coating. It's not used for a decorative finish. It's used to build up worn parts, such as machine shafts.

Hard chrome is not shiny. It doesn't look good. It's an industrial process.

People are often confused by the term "Hard Chrome". This doesn't mean that decorative chrome is softer or less durable. It simply means that the hard chrome is a much, much thicker layer.
