Default Re: Thermometer

Just a note...From personal experience I have found that not ALL IR thermometers work well for this application. Infact, I have one model here which was rather expensive, which will give false readings. It appears that it the measurement is affected by the steam coming off the surface of the solution. In cases I have found that this thermometer has been in excess of 5 degrees incorrect.

Just something to bare in mind when shopping around. I have come to the conclusion that the submersible style thermometers work much better. Regarding my acid tank, I have recently decided to use my digital multimeter which is capable of temperature measurements. Using a glass testube, I filled it with distilled water, stopped the top of it with a rubber testube stopper which has a small hole through the center of it. I inserted my temperature probe through this hole a sealed it. I then hung the testube 3/4 of the way into the acid bath. This seems to work well for me...

Just my $0.02
