Default Re: quality of Anodiz....

*** NOTE *** In my experience I have found that a clean, degreased part will strip more rapidly, effeciently and evenly oppsed to one that is oily or dirty.

I would think that the anodic layer's pore size and thickness would determine the duration of the stripping process (not including bath parameters of course...Temp, concentration, agitation, ect...). Having said that, a thicker layer will obviously take longer to completely strip away in comparison to that of a thinner layer. I would have to assume that a larger pore would decrease the length of time required to strip the film as the larger pore would allow for more chemical to funnel inside and therefore stripping at a more aggressive rate.

Conclusion? It would seem that a part which takes longer to strip would have a thicker, denser anodic layer. Is this how you might judge the quality of an anodized layer? I suppose...If the layer is thick with small pores and yet absorbed the dye effectively - I would think that it is a wonderfull anodic layer.

This is of course, just my hypothesis...And my $0.02.
