Default Plating leaky musical instrument valve?

I was considering purchasing a Plug n Plate kit to try to build up a leaky rotary valve for a trombone (solid brass valve body). I think the usual way to do this would be to build it up with copper plating, lap it in, and nickel-plate over the copper (to reduce corrosion, I assume). Would the combo nickel/copper Plug n Plate kit work for this purpose? The reason I'm thinking of the Plug n Plate kit rather than a larger setup is that it seems more economical and would take up less space in my tiny work area.

Is copper the best way to build up thickness, or could I plate either nickel or silver directly onto the brass? Thanks.
