I have used Paint shop Metal Prep, Alcohol, EW Pre as long as it has NO petroleum in it. I also use Simple Green to do cleaning and then wipe it down with any of the ones I listed. They all seem to work. Just before you shoot the powder on, use a small propane torch and just quickly go over the part to get rid of the fuzzies and dust that collects on the part. Don't get it to hot. The little sparks you will see are the fuzzies getting burned up.
