No not really. If the buffer is smaller than the mounting plate you cut the mounting plate to the size of your buffer base. That way with the bigger things that you buff, you won't run into the mounting plate! Also if the corners of your mounting plate stick you from under the buffer, you want to cover them in slit rubber tubing! Nuff said.

opps....I ment if the buffer was larger than the stand
I am going to have to drill some holes regardless, as the stand has 2 centered slots, and the sears buffers have holes on all 4 corners.....no biggie
