Smile Re: Need a powdercoater...

OK so let me get this straight the silver stripe is actually metal showing through with satin clear on it.

Well look i'm from Australia and even though the people selling the powder coat here will tell you differently, i have sample swatches with clear over metal that over a period of about twelve months have started to get rust under the clear coat.

I have done my research and the reason for this is that all powder coat is actually porous some more than others and clearsare especially porous. So if you have put a single coat of clear over bare steel then you are not completely stopping the rust from forming you are merely slowing it down considerably.

No powder coating company down here will warranty there product for more than 12 months unless you have put a zinc based under coat on first and then your coloured coat on afterwards at a decent film thickness. The thicker the coat the longer the protection.

If i had of powder coated the job for you i would have put a minimum of two coats of clear over the entire job.

So it may not entirely be the powder coaters fault. It looks like it started as a really good job and it might pay to take it back and ask them to rectify the problem.

Cheers mate and good luck.
