To be honest I'm totally against coatings of any sort on polished parts - I don't use them, but have seen what happened to others' work, including factory coatings. Not good.

If I felt any urge at all to coat, I'd research clear powdercoating, starting with the forum for it here. It might be a good option, especially if it can be wetsanded after. Plus, it can easily be baked off later, leaving your polished surface most likely only needing a quick run over a spiral wheel.

Others will be along in a bit who know something about powder, or you can go over there and ask.
