Guitar parts are generally nickel plated, and will last years without tarnishing to any great degree with nothing more than a simple wipe. I've never known any parts like this to be waxed at all.
This started happening within a couple days.

When guitar parts DO tarnish through years of use, it happens in a very predictable manner. And blue isn't one of them.
I've studied the effects and patterns of guitar part aging for almost ten years now, in order to try to reproduce those effects accurately.
