Anodize is stripped with a sodium hydroxide (lye) and warm (not hot) water solution. I don't think muriatic (hydrochloric) acid will even work.
If you're fortunate enough to have a hardware store rather than a "home center" in your area, you should be able to get Red Devil brand lye. The best solution concentration is determined by trial and error, start with about 10% lye and warm water. The fumes liberated when this reacts with aluminun is noxious, do this outside if you can. The work must be throughly degreased for this to work properly. Be very careful, it's easy to over do it and ruin the work.
