Thanks to both replies. I tried the wht-it really helps. The pieces are MC hubs and Akront alum rims. I do know they have never been blasted. I am taling about for example the side face of a rim. I have already polished it-but have some pitting which won't come out with emery/spiral ,emery/sisal- or wet dry sanding from 220,320,400 ,600. When I used the greasless (240 grit)-it left orange peel.

I think I need to get a high speed orbital sander-electric, as I have air DA, but that compressor is noisy.
