That's pretty much how it works. With the one hole I don't think you will see much movement, I can't remember. But I think you need to open the screw in the bottom of the handle to aid that. It's a learning game. You gotta learn what the gun wants.
Just keep playing with it. Also, on the bottom of the barrel, there is a plastic plug affair, loosen that up and adjust it in or out and see what that brings. That helps powder flow as well.
