Dude, that is a sand cast cylinder. It is going to be tough-you need to get it all up to 320-400 grit-and I bet you may need to do more sanding. Also , since you are unliklely to distort flat surfaces on the jug-use a sisal wheel with emery of Caswell's super sisal bar. I have been susing it on castings and really, really cuts the casting down smooth -fast. Then to spiral and emery-this will give you most of the shine, in fact on some parts it is the best shine and I leave it at that( maybe a bit with white and spiral)-then to white and sprial.
I am thinking you are using too light of pressure-and maybe moving the part around too fast. While you can use too much pressure, and burn into the part a bit-you must have heat buildup to melt the compound, that way it will cut. Can you post some pics?
