I am a newbie too , had this same problem..read somewhere that the temperature has to be below 20 deg C mine was 22 deg C and color would wipe off. As my tank is only a 1 gallon size I use a sealed 1 pint soda pop bottle of water that was frozen the night before and a small glass fish tank thermometer, Place the bottle upright behind the part being ano and use a small plastic paddle to agitate....works like a charm
