    Default Heaters for what Tanks?

    Okay So I was talking to my friend who also does anodizing, and we realized we have different heating for the tanks. Some contaminate the chemicals though so we're actually confused on this now. So what types of heaters do you guys use for what tanks? Stainless steel and ceramic are my two and I use the following:

    Degreaser -> Stainless
    Deox -> Stainless (He uses ceramic because stainless contaminates?)
    Stripper -> Stainless
    Ano -> none
    Dye -> Stainless
    Sealer -> Ceramic (He uses Stainless, but doesn't stainless contaminate sealer?)

    So if you guys want to throw an input on what you use for what tank, I'd greatly appreciate it, hate to learn I'm contaminating my tanks.

    I use nothing but ceramic. guess that the ceramic worked from the begining so never thought to switch. All the kits come with ceramic anyways.

    Yea but ceramic heats too slow for me on my bigger tanks. So I only use them for tanks that can get contamination.
    Anyone else?

    You're fine using ss sheathed heaters in alkaline solutions. I'd have to check the ph of the de-ox, but I'm assuming it acidic, you'd want to use titanium or ceramic there.

    Here's a chart -

    Oh wow that chart is great. So I can use SS for everything except the Deox?

    I thought SS contaminates the Nickel Acetate sealer?

    Far from a chemical guy here, but I know that acetate's are made from acetic acid, and the chart shows quartz or teflon, so you'd want to use ceramic there.

    Yeah but the nickel acetate shows stainless on the chart, so what's the truth?

    2 for 1 special, this one was harder to find.
    Compatibility
    If you're not sure of the SS alloy, go ceramic. Ceramics are mainly inert to attack by chemical, though I'm sure with the glass content Hydrofluoric acid would attack it some, which is definitely not in your sealer.

    I think I'll just stick with my ceramic for Sealer and Deox (now learned for deox!)

    Thanks Guys

    Interesting, the bad part is the Stainless Alloy used on water heater elements, which is what I use, is Incoloy, and that's not compatible according to this chart.

    I've asked this before in this forum and I don't think I got an answer, so if anyone would let us know, how can you tell if the Sealer is contaminated?

    Plus I only put my water heater element in to get it to boiling and then take it out, so it's only in 25 minutes.
