Thread: help with color (Hot Orange)

Default help with color (Hot Orange)

I am trying to produce a new color for a parts run I am doing. I want it to be a hot reddish orange color. I figured I could start with orange dye and add red to the mix until it looked the color I want. Anyone have experience with this? I would love to hear the ratio of the dyes and the duration of dye time on the part. Pics would be great as well.

Can't help you with the details but Caswell sells a mixing color wheel. If you don't want to buy one then do a google search for color mixing wheel.

I have one. Its about as worthless as it gets. Basically shows you what 2 primary colors do when you mix them 50/50. I already know yellow and blue make green etc.

We had poor results with color quality as well.

This is a polished version of Caswells "orange" dye. It looks more gold to me than anything (slightly more orange in person). The only thing I can guess is it might look better on a dusted finish.

These parts were anodized to .7mil and were dyed for roughly 10 minutes.

Here are some color samples I have done. The orangish red color on the left is caswell's copper. The one on the right is caswell's golden orange. Not exactly sure what my thicknesses were , but my CD was 4.5 for 90 minutes.

Did anyone find a solution? Orange isn't that uncommon of a color so somebody's dye must be working.
