Totally agree use Caswell 1st they do the most to support the beginner, but what about the items that Caswell doesnt offer or has problems with? I dont mind spending money but its also important to not waste it with buying something twice because it didnt work or didnt last. Buying something cheap twice is often more expensive than buying good stuff once!

I read the back posts to learn from others problems and algae seems to grow in the darker dyes?

I found a chemical online that is supposed to suppress this KolorRite 5003 / ALGAE CONTROL FOR ORGANIC DYE

Orange / Olive dye seems to give people problems? That's too bad as those are some of my favorite colors. I have seen those colors so someones dyes must give good results?

Sealer that lasts only 60 days (Per LCD paperwork from Caswell)? I wont use it constantly, so I'm looking for something with a shelf life.

You could always use a pure boiling water seal. Can't beat the cost.

I've been using the same Caswell nickel acetate sealer for 5 months or so, same clarity, same apparent results.

As for the dye, that is annoying...I've submitted to mold being in everything in varying degrees. I keep black in the fridge cos it's unusable otherwise but it's always musty.

It's foul, but I just rinse the mold spots off with the extra dye when I pull the piece out . And then there are the hardened clumps of mineral buildup, perhaps, at bottom of tanks? Never knew what they were but they frustrate all filtration. Dyes still work so
