Default RODI water storage

I am using two 55 gallon "PURIFIED" barrels to store RODI water in. I have the barrels positioned and raised to attain gravity feed. They are plumbed together as well as vented through the bungholes in them. The problem being the level of purification that was done prior to me getting them. My input water tests @0-5 ppm TDS. After I have filled the barrels totally and started draining them I am getting about 50ppm TDS. Is there any way to get my levels back down to acceptable levels? I was initially told the barrels would be stable enough to hold purified water since they have been professionally cleaned. I have heard that leaching them with an acid solution would help, any help with this? If this wouln't do it, are there any other methods that will work? Is there a better storage method for purified water? I need to be able to store about 100 gallons.

Eastex,

Before now I have always bought in deionized water but recently I got an RO unit which I presume you have also. I would be very grateful if you could go into more detail about how you have set this up with the tanks, how you decided you needed two 55 gallon tanks (seams quite a lot) and also how you solved your problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

How? Inquiring minds want to know, as I'm thinking about getting a RO system.

Hey Guys,
The problem kinna worked itself out...fortunately. Starters... I got the drums from an automotive cleaning supply vendor. They were professionally reconditioned before I recieved them. I did some quick rinsing and plumbed them together. After the first filling on them I was getting high TDS readings. After this filling I completely drained them and washed them out again with RODI water. If this hadn't worked by itself I would have leached them out with a 2% electrolite solution. Fortunately the levels are down below 5TDS at present. I have a RODI system rated at 100 gallons per day (actually producing around 75-85GPD.) It has a float, check valve with an auto shut off inline. I'm running 22 Gallon tanks with 18 gallons of solution with same size rinse tanks. I'm trying to set this up from the beginning as a small business rather than a hobby. I'm in the auto reconditioning industry, so I'm trying to set things up for that niche along with being an avid tournament paintballer. I'd rather be safe than sorry. My buddy Bill from Imperial Paintball suggested starting out a bit bigger than having to redo it as soon as I get the bugs worked out. Thanks for the interest guys,

Cool. I'm about to setup a similar tank system for the RO water myself.- not quite as big. So have you thought about getting water in and out of the rinse tanks? I splashed about some ideas here >> http://www.caswellplating.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=1400 but it is all purely speculation as none of it has made it past the drawing board as yet.

All my rinse tanks are below the chem tanks, on the floor, a split level kinna setup. Small submersable pumps work fine for draining the water tanks after neutralizing. My fresh RODI water is gravity fed from the storage drums with clear plastic tubing. The storage tanks are on a raised platform on the other side of the wall, outside of the tank room. Tap water and 2 stage water in the tank room sink. Its a bit cramped but should be pretty efficient hopefully. Hoping to get it all finished up shortly.
