It's the 2XXX alloys that I find build a heavier layer of smut in lye based solutions.
I know the 2XXX builds less film thickness compared to other alloys for a given time, so I'm not 100% positive why less time compared to 6061 gives good results. If I anodize 2011 for the same time I do 6XXX series, it tends to get speckles in the dye, and a smutty coating. I am not following the LCD formula either for the bulk of our anodizing, not because it doesn't give good results, but because of time considerations mainly. I am doing 6XXX series at 8 amps CD for 75 minutes in 2.5:1 solution with good results, and the 2011 amps CD for 60 minutes. I want to experiement more too, but haven't had time. So, I am sticking with what is working for me now. Fibergeek, I would like to hear the results of your findings if and when you are ready to reveal them. |
