well, I am proud to say that it is now working although I do need to get better at it. The problem was the polarity like sswee said and I checked it with a multimeter but it says in the instructions of the rectifier that left is postive and right is negitive but its really the other way around, weird. My first part has a couple discolorations but that was becuase I handled it wrong and my second one had a large grey spot but that was the part that was closest to the aquarium heater and it says in the troubleshooter that if the temprature is not continuous it will leave large grey cloudy areas so I know what caused that and now I am trying to get it perfect and get a really dark black, Ill get you pics of my first try soon.

Glad to here it. I had forgotten that I had a polarity problem with the 3A PS when I first started. If I remember right the manual with mine was reversed also.
Aquarium heater? What temp are you running at? Running at higher temps promotes dissolution. SS Last edited by sswee; 09-02-2005 at 08:39 PM. |

try stipping the parts with out threading your hanger . I always degrease-strip-desmut-polish or bead blast-degrease-now thread your hanger-degrease-desmut-anno-baking soda wash-color- and yes ive had best results when the dye is heated.

also my lead cathode seems like its deteriorating fast, like flakes are coming off it, is that normal?
I had the aquariam heater in there becuase it was 60 outside today and I am doing this in a garge with no heating. I had it set at 70 though and I had a thermometer monitering the bath the entire time. Last edited by Paintbalaguy; 09-02-2005 at 09:04 PM. |

Here are some pics from try 3, I am happy to say that I have found no flaws at all in it and this seems to be perfect right now. It so black its ninja.
![]() ![]() And here are some pics from my very first try, I took one pic of the biggest flaw that was on there, the white spot and discoloration but I suspect that was just from handling the part with bar hands becuase I was just trying to get a ano layer to form and I didnt care how it looked after. The dye I used was 2 minutes of olive drab and 8 of florecent yellow, I didnt think it was gonna dye so I just threw it in the closest dye bucket there and then I pulled it out and I was amazed and I wanted to see what the florecent yellow would look like but it was to late, I guess you could call that color dark gold. |

Super. You just need to fine tune everything and you'll be spot on. Three tries to get good color, not bad. It took me about 12 or 15 and changing from Rit to Caswell dye.
I run my tank at 60 to 62 degrees to slow dissolution and get smaller pore size. I had to use an aquarium heater last winter to get it out of the 50's. It has been in the 100's here lately is what made me ask about the heater. Last edited by sswee; 09-02-2005 at 10:17 PM. |

well, I do want a hard ano but I also want a really deep dyeing ano 2 so I guess me having mine at 70 is a good thing, and I only got it right in 3 tries because I had alot of help from other ppl and a bought the right stuff first (other than a plating rectifier).
Thanks for the help sswee and acid rain |
