Approximately .001 is removed stripping and re-ano. Times two because the barrel has two surfaces means the .688 becomes .690.
On the otherhand, if it's a two-piece barrel, you can cork the ends of the back, and just strip and re-ano the outside saving the bore diameter. The front doesn't matter as much. That can't be done (at least not easily) with a one-piece because of the porting.
