Default contaminated tank?

The other night I did some 2xxx series parts which contains other metals in the mix, zinc, magnesium, etc

Tonight I went out to garage, took a look in the tank, and the top of the solution had little yellowish/brown areas of stuff floating on the top of the tank, this never happened before I did these parts. The only other thing I can think of besides that is the steel thumbscrews over the tank im using to secure the pieces to the rack, they have rusted and arent looking very good, but Im not sure if some contaminants got down in the tank or not

Any suggestions would be appreciated
