Anyone know of a way to guess dye mixes to achive pantone color scale?

I am not sure I really worded that right. My problem is a customer who needs some prototype parts machined and anodized. Their color choice will be given using pantone system. ie: Pantone 144

Get a color wheel from Caswell. From the quick search on Pantone, good luck. The only thing I can see is if they give you a color chip or sample of what they want and go from there.

This is a case of the customer never being right. He simply can't 'choose' his anodize color. The chemistry involved in anodize colors will only allow a limited range of colors. It isn't like paint. eg: you can't do white!

Better that you tell him what you CAN do, and he chooses on one of those.
Now, if you can perfect mixing several existing colors, and provide a consistant result, all credit to you. Make sure you charge him accordingly.
