This is my first on this forum. I have a 73 Porsche that I am told has aluminum trim that was clear anodized. The aluminum looks like chrome, not frosty at all. I can't find a shop that can do this work so I thought I might try it myself if I could learn how (if it is possible). Anyone done this before??
Thanks Phil |

I haven't done this, but can offer some thoughts...
If the trim is thin, it may be too flimsy to polish after stripping. If the trim is thin, it may be reduced to nothing after stripping. If the the parts a heavy, they should be able to withstand stripping and polishing, but think about thier size and required tank and power source requirements. Is it cheaper than just buying new? To test for ano, use a volt/ohm meter, and check to see if the part conducts electricity. If it does, its chrome. If not, it's ano.

Thanks for responding.
The parts I want to anodized bright clear are from a 73 Porsche 911. The parts are already polished but I understand the anodizing was done to protect the part from the weather and to maintain the shine. These parts are either no longer available or very expensive. I was told that the bright clear process may only be available in LA or Detroit so I was hoping someone her might know how to do it. Ideas? Phil |

It's a simple enough process... strip the old ano, polish the aluminum part, re-anodize to ~.5mil. Lots of places can do it. It will depend on the size of the parts more than anything. PM me... I may be able to help you out.
