Default Bad Parts

Does anyone know what is wrong when one area of the part does not anodize and just dissolves away? It usually happens on an end, but I have also seen it happen in the middle where it was racked.http://forum.caswellplating.com/imag...n_question.gif

The parts are valve spools and the material is 2011 T3.

2xxx series is not the greatest to anodize. It has alot of copper content in it and it's coating will offer poor protection. I would dare to say cut 1/4 of the normal time off it being in the tank and see how it does. I bet it's leaving nasty smut on the part towards the end of the run and the piece is turning a lemon color.

Later,
Tim

Hi Tim, You really seem to know what you are talking about. I guess I have not described the problem well enough. Check out the photo. Both parts were identical when they went in.
(I hope I have found how attach a small photo)
Thanks, Barry

I agree with Tim, but suggest cutting the time even further to 1/2 calculated time.
The bad areas could also be attributed to being too close to the cathode, poor agitation, or tank temp too high. What are those parameters?
