Default Masking????

Ok did my first 2 color job. I used rubber cement in some ingravings, bleached, and redyed. Turned out pretty well. But it seemed to take forever and you can see where I got the cement where it should not have been. I used a tiny paint brush.

What do you guys use for this?

Try reducing the rubber cement with lacquer thinner... it will make it less stringy. You may have to give it a couple coats though.
Also, after you bleach the area, rinse well, then dip in 1:3 sulfuric acid/water, then rinse again. That will help remove any remaining dye, and will also liberate any remaining chlorine in the pores so the next color will take.

Sorryto butt in the thread but I've never done masking. When you guys say "rubber cement" do you mean regular contact cement or something else?

Not contact cement... it sticks tenaciously.
No, I mean the cheap school-grade rubber cement for crafts, etc. Elmers makes some, and it comes in a small brown bottle in the pens/paper/school supplies section of Walgreen's, etc.
After sealing, it will easily rub off. Just make sure it's completely dry before going into any solutions.
