I been doing some anodizing runs and must of the time my parts come with a kind of gold tone and get the dye pretty well. I've read some post and I found that the gold tone is for over anodize. How i got this if my calculation are ok?. Please take a look at the pic:

Do you mean the red is too golden? It looks OK to me.
The gold tint is VERY faint, and also varies from alloy to alloy. What are you perameters (CD, alloy, SA, amps, run time). What color dye is that?

Sorry guys that i couldn't get back to you before, but here you have my parameter:
Is a 6061 alum. S.A. 0.330 sq ft. 6 Amps per sq ft. Rectifier set at 1.98 amps. Layer of .7 mils Run time is 84min. Dye color is Deep red. Sswee as you see i produced a .7 mils tickness, but let say I would like to keep the silver color of aluminum and have a nice coat of anodize, so do you think that I should go for .5 mils? Do you guys know where i could get the silver dye? I have some parts that are already dyed with silver, it looks like shinny aluminum. Thanks for your replys guys. |

No need to dye it at all for aluminum color. You can use Gray NLN if you want a little darker Pewter color.
You may have problems getting a nice red with thinner coatings using deep red. I always use Bordeaux Red for everything... don't much care for the Deep Red.

It's a hard balancing act with a part that has color and no color together. The Reds like a thicker coating usually and to get away from the golden hue needs a thinner coating. I can't say .5 mil would do the trick for sure, it'll help but it may make your red too light. You'll just have to try it and see if it's what you want.
Have you anodized anything polished to get silver? SS Last edited by sswee; 04-06-2007 at 12:52 AM. |

You guys are right. If I go for a thinner coat the red wont get darker as I want, so I'll try with the grey NLN as you said Acidrain.
Sswee, I've anodized a polished part and got the red pretty nice. I guess I just need to try diferent settings, anyway I will show you my next parts and you will tell me what you think guys. Thank you guys again. |
