Default Aluminum cathodes

Just wondering who is using aluminum cathodes. From what I under stand you can use 1 sq foot cathode to every 3 sq foot anode. Is this the same for lead, does the aluminum produce better results?

One last question from what I have read it should be 6063T6 if you are using aluminum what are you using?

Can't recall if mine are 6016 or 6061 but they are the ones from a chain hardware store. I think K&S sells them as well as other metal tubing, rods, etc.. Mine are 6x12 by 1/16 thick. My biggest job so far was about 45 sq inches. So far they have worked out well.

I use 6061 sheets 12 x 12 x .060", on each side of my tank and it works great.

I do beleive that you should have more cathode area than anode area! I beleive it is up to 4 time more cathode area than anode area.
