Question Ano kit for motorcycle wheels? And surface area?

I got my tax return & want a kit. I have small parts to Ano but may want to Ano my motorcycle wheels. It looks like I should get the Deluxe kit if I ever do decied to do the wheels. But is it big enough?
I would imagine each wheel to be over 4 sf. Just over 50" around by 6" wide ouside. Double it for the opposite inside of rim = about 600.
Center hub about 216
Spokes are about 270
That sound about right? How is the 4 sf that the 20amp kit good for calculate? 12" x 48" = 576"
Well over what I calculte the rear wheel 1087".
Do I need more power for this?

You will need a huge tank, probably 50 + gallons. Followed by a sealer tank just as big, followed by a way to heat it.

Hmmm... those look cast. Cast parts can be difficult. Are they anodized now? Powder coat may be the way to go.
Really? Only 4 sq. ft.? I would have thought much more than that.

No they are forged from billet. This set was ano'd black frome the factory. I got them used and saved almost what Caswell's deluxe Ano kit sells for.

But is the deluxe kit good for the near 1100 square inches I calculated?
And they are 17" rims with the rear 6" wide. So why would I need a tank so big? I fig I could get them in a 20-30 gallon tote.

Yeah, you'll need a 25 amp 20 volt CC power sourse, but other than that everything else is basics.
You could mask the areas not needing ano like where the tire goes, and use a smaller PS.
The tank just needs to completely hold the rims with enough space to keep the parts at least 3in. from the cathode. A square-ish bin would be perfect.
I'm wondering about the cathode... you may want to have cathodes on each side of the rim to avoid shadowing.

The cathodes in four corners or is that over kill?
Anyone ever try putting the cathodes in the bottom of the tub?

I was just worried if I would need more power then the 20amps that the deluxe kit has. Thanks for taking the time to answer. I may never even do the rims.

The big problem here would be the tank more then the power source.

A vertical deep tank might be the way to go. You can run the cathodes in very large areas with no ill effects. I'd run a large plate on each side of the wheel.

Finding a tank and plates are going to be the easy part. Dealing with the heat generated from pushing that many amps will be where the trouble begins.

I haven't used them for anodizing (yet), but I have a few 220 liter (58 gallon) "olive barrels" that I bought at one of the surplus yards I haunt. They are made of nice thick HDPE and have an inside diameter of 22" at the widest part. The "neck" with the lid is small, only about 15" diameter, so the barrel would need to have the top cut off to get a motorcycle wheel in one. They're great barrels, but you'll have to wash them out a bunch of times before they don't smell like olives (or sometimes pickles)!

Perhaps you can find something like that locally ?

I'd put a cathode on the top and bottom with the wheel sandwiched between them. Probably not any need for a cathode around the circumference, since you probably don't need to anodize the area where the tire goes.
