Default Acid for anodizing

Is automotive battery acid the same mixture (1/3 acid, 2/3 water) from all sources? The plating manual recommends getting it from NAPA auto stores for use in anodizing, but I have some from a different source. Does it matter as long as its automotive battery acid?

It should all be virtually the same.

Semi-related note: Some people try to use sulfuric acid instead of battery acid....it's not the same concentration and doesn't work out of the bottle.

Hello,
Hope you don\'t mind if I add on to this thread, but what you said caught my eye about sulfuric acid not working out of the box. Can you give a little more detail on that. Reason being we currently use battery acid but my partner seems to think we should switch to sulfuric acid. I did some research and I\'m not sure if I want to use that stuff. If can tell me what the pro\'s and con\'s are that would be great.

Thanks in advance

Battery acid is mostly, but not 100% sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid is 100% sulfuric acid.

We recommend battery acid for our kits and processes. Some people may find sulfuric acid works best in other products. It\'s really up to you to experiment.
