Default Purple Power vs. Ano

I usually pre-strip clean my parts with detergent/hot water, but this time I experimented with about a 10:1 diluted Purple Power. After about 30 minutes, I was surprised to see it was stripping the ano layer/dye off.

Or has it eaten thru the sealer and washing the dye away, but leaving the ano layer intact? Is that possible?

Another neat trick I discovered over the weekend: blue polishing compound and a loose cotton/canton flannel wheel removes scratches from a CD/DVD and makes it like new

that's a really good idea (about the cds)

Not like I'd be able to help you or anything, but out of curiosity what are the ingredients in purple power?

That has sodium hydroxide in it, Im always careful before I buy a new cleaner to test, as alot of the cleaners in the automotive section has lye as the active ingrediant. Simple green has proven better for me.

I was just experimenting with a test scrap dyed blue. I was just curious what would happen.

Ive had it in there about 2 hours now; still not fully strippped, but the places that are bare aluminum havent pitted or anything.
