Black turns bronzy black

I think blackcote hit it on the head with ideal temps being dependent upon multiple factors collectively. I run normally at 60 to 62F. I have gone as low as 58*F with no problems dyeing. Many have found out the dye gives the best results at the 140*F that is recommended.

As the others have said already, the main peoblem sounds like dissolution. The pore size is too large to hold and retain the dye. I would start at the beginning and get the acid ratio correct first. Are you using battery acid? Is 18% the volume of battery acid to distilled water?

You know I hate to bring back an older thread, but I havent been on the forum in awhile and I think I know what this guy is talking about. A fresh batch of black dye from caswell, I bought early november or somewhere in there. If I oversoaked the parts, they would have this bronze color, and when they were sealed, they would have a purpleish bronze overtone to them that would not wash off. My old caswell dye did not do this.
