It's easier to get a grasp on if you see Fibergeek's graphs on the different material grades to CD. The coating grows at a slightly different rate on the different material grades due to the differences in conductivity and material composition. Acid can tell you how much time to cut for the 2xxx and 7xxx grades.

Reduce by ~25%

5xxx and 6xxx alloys (@6ASF)
.5 mil - gold, clear, light colors 1 hr
.75 mil - medium colors like blue, orange, etc 1 h 30 m
1 mil - red and black 2 hr

2xxx and 7xxx alloys (@6ASF)
.5 mil 45 min
.75 mil 1 hr 12 m
1 mil 1 hr 30 min
