Default Colors and Color Wheel

Hello,
I am getting ready to place my first color order. Have a question as to the colors and color wheel. I don't want to order a whole bunch of smaller (2 gallon) colors I might never use, so instead I'm thinking about ordering 5 larger basic colors and buy the color wheel. I assume then I can make most other colors if I need to at a later date.

So these are the colors I'm thinking of ordering and wondering if anyone that has ordered colors and the color wheel before will chime in and let me know if these are the colors I should order, or if they would recommend others to give me the most color options with what I order. Also, I need to keep the price a around 100.00 to start.

1) Deep Red Anodizing Dye - 1 Pint (8 gallons)
2) Blue 4A Anodizing Dye - 1 Pint
3) Yellow 4A Anodizing Dye - 1 Pint
4) Red Bordeaux 2R Anodizing Dye - 1 Pint
5) Black HBL Anodizing Dye - 4oz (2 gallons)

Thanks Ron

i did the same thing, it is probably a good idea with basic colors like green, purple or orange, thats what I've done so far, and have no problem, but if you are planing to do brown or other color like that you should consider buying it instead of trying to make it.

Very true... i couldn't agree more.
One suggestion, skip the deep red. I've never had good luck with it (turns out kind of pink). You can alway adjust the depth of color with dye time and ano thickness. I use bordeaux red for everything. I'm sure somebody will jump in and tell me I'm full of ****. but that's my oppinion, and I'm sticking by it.

I love deep red. It has that burgundy, blood color to it.

anodize to 1mil, heat the dye up to 80C and dip for 20 mins, that solve my problems with that dye

Smile Re: Colors and Color Wheel

Thanks for the help and hint guys.

Here's the colors I ordered.

Red Bordeaux 2R Anodizing Dye - 1 Pint
Yellow 4A Anodizing Dye - 1 Pint
Blue 4A Anodizing Dye - 1 Pint
Black HBL Anodizing Dye - 4oz
Fast Blue 2LWN Dye - 1 Pint
Gold S Anodizing Dye - 4oz
Color Wheel

Hopefully, I think these will let me make most other colors I will need to start with ( except the browns and some other darker colors)

Any hints, tips, etc. I should know about any of them. or just follow the standard directions of 140 for up to 20 minutes depending on shade I want.

(I already read about Ph and plan on setting it to caswells numbers)

Thanks again
Ron

My bordeux Red is a weird color, even when heated, sometimes the edges of parts wont take, but if I dip in another color, it will be fine and the color will be consistant.
