Default can an ano'ed surface pit?

hello,

can ano'ed layers pit after they are finished under everyday conditions?

there is a debate about what the finish is on another forum in on (finish on macbook pro's) and while they are supposedly "anodized" there has been rare reports of pitting on the palm rests and the finish chipping off. i had a small piece scrape off after it got discolored on and old powerbook with the same finish. i have never seen anodizing react like this at all, nonetheless have the same finish as these computers.

any thoughts/info would be appreciated

Anodizing doesnt chip under normal conditions. Ive anodized parts and had a small 1/4" spot chip off fresh out of the sealer like a piece of hair thin paint, it has only happened once and I cant explain why. Anodizing shouldn't flake off randomly though. Possibly the metal is plated?

thats what i thought but can you explain any of the pitting.

also as far as i know there isnt a way to match a finnish on anodizing to a plastic piece or even with any paint really, does anyone know if you can match well or not?

My official guess is that the constant heating/cooling from the battery expands the aluminum under the oxide coating so that eventually it just fatigues to the point where it chips off.

that would be very logical... except it doesnt seem to happen on parts of the case that dont get much heat.

i think the finnish may be an electro static paint
