Default Lead sheets, what thickness?

What is the common size in thickness of lead sheet to use. 1/8" sound about right? When placing one on each side of the tank, is bigger better? Or in a cooler sized tank just get a sheet slightly narrower than the width? Where is the best place to buy this stuff?
Thanks,
Grumple

The lead I get is more like 1/16in. You can get it at roofing supply or non-ferous metals supply.
Bigger won't hurt. I ran a 6in wide strip ever the edge and down the side, accross the bottom and up the other side. I actually slit it down the middle and folded it outward so that when it meets the bottom, it splits out to each side, accross the bottom at the outside corners, then back together again when it goes up the sides.

Thanks. Good info. I guess you connect the leads with alligator clips or solder? As long as the solder joint is not in the liquid? Or do you use a nut and bolt? I hate to ask but I am sure one way is better than another...
Thanks,

Both ways of connection to the lead plate are good. Both have pros and cons. Most of the cons are remedied by common sense and maintenance.
Bolt connections need to be cleaned and tightened on occasion. The alligator clips need to be kept clean and have good spring tension.

I used 1/8" lead sheet mainly because I had access to that size but as acidrain said the thinner sheets work just as well.

Ok, that is what I needed to know. Thinner is cheaper and costs less to ship too.
