Thread: Need help picking a big power supply

Default Need help picking a big power supply

I have been reading thru threads here on power supplies and am in need of opinion/thoughts on a big CC power supply . I have a fairly large commercial setup with what appears to be a 200 amp unregulated power supply as described in my other power supply thread , I also have a very large commercial chiller that should be suitable for keeping 60 +- gal at 32f even with the large amounts of heat being generated .

The parts I am anodizing are 7075t6, .56 sqf , I need (read would like) to run them 20 at a time, I believe they need to be run at 24-28 asf. Can someone direct me to a suitable power supply or at least help me with the math to detirmine which one I need?

not against purchasing a used power supply , but price isnt an issue , just want to purchase the correct power supply from the begining. Thanks
    Richard

based on 0.56 sqft/part and you want to run 20 you have about 11 sqft total. At 28 ASF you are looking at about 300 amps, so I would look for a minimum 400 amp unit (a little room to grow.) As for the voltage rating, that depends on the target oxide thickness. Since you mention 32F I assume you are doing type III which typically is 1.8-2.2 mils. Getting that thickness you would need about 50 volts or more. If you are doing type II for clear or dye, then you can get by with 24 volts. Regardless of the rectifier, I would plan on a 3 phase 220 or 480 power input on a supply that size.

As far as finding one, if you want it new try Rapid, Clinton, or Aldonex, otherwise maybe a google for used anodizing rectifiers would help.
