    Default dye shelf life

ive been having a few problems with clumps in my black dye. have tried filtering etc but they come back very quickly. i'm guessing its mould growing and periodically boil the dye to kill it off and then filter again. is there anything you can put in with it to stop this happening ? some sort of anti-fungal / mould solution ?

I've heard there are anti-fungals for dye, but have yet to try any.

just noticed this problem myself. got a couple uses out of a batch of black (sure, it has to be the color that's $$$) before it had a colony of mold on top. skimmed it off, heated it up, seemed to work fine. black's been made up a couple weeks! the regular blue, which has been sitting around much longer, had a bit too

unless someone has found another solution since these posts a couple months ago, i'm going to try refrigerating the black. will post results.

yup, refrigeration has kept the black clean since the last post. it would have been all scummed over by now. the mold seems to favor darker dyes (black esp., then blue, then brown) but i think there's a bit in my yellow too.
