Repair work, mainly on aluminum. I can heat the heck out of a really thin coat of copper of aluminum, and use regular (50/50, plum loy) solder. However, a thick copper coat can blister if it gets too hot (even worse with die-cast zinc), thermal expansion issues. So if I notice a repair to be made after a thicker coat of copper (like a really deep pit in cast aluminum), I break out the Tix. It sands
really easy, and the low temp makes repairs quick. Everything else gets the piece really hot, with 275 you can heat just a small area of aluminum, and literally hold the other end in your hand (6" circle for example). The next time I'm up, I can bring you a couple sticks, if you'd like to see it/try it.
