copy chrome is grey

On my first try it came out fine ,now 2 months later it is coming out Grey ,but it polishes out quite well. the copy chrome brightener in its package has leaked out and was only 2/3 full ,would this result mean ,I should get more brightener.

also should the air pump be in the tube or outside and the little hose inside.

I have the filter and large tube( purchased tube at lowes) in the tank with the small tube drawing air from outside tank. I get good circulation and air bubbles in tank. I also am only getting dull grey finish on my test copper pieces.

A number of areas can cause this:
1. Current too high.
2. pH not in range.
3. Temperature too high.
4. Not enough brightener.
