I have a dash bezel that has round gauge border rings that i would like to rechrome. the part cannot be dipped easily, as it is pretty large, and the gauge border rings are separated from each other. Would the brush-type plug & plate copychrome work over the silvaspray? tTese border rings are only about 1/16" wide by 4" in diameter.. any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

Same car dash bezel rechroming problem.
I have a simple copychroming kit, some copper and nickel solution. I have some silverspray, I have tried several small pieces of plastic with no success. I have a home made setup (voltage adjustable supply, using a piece of stainless stell as a anode, everything). I can succesfuly a small plate a pieces of metal with copper, copy chrome, black chrome or nickel without problem using a wand or dipping with ajusting the electrical output at 4.5-6 volts. But just cant get result with silverspray on plastic. It just turn out "dirty" without any shine, even lightly buffed, seems like plating doesnt stick on at all What is copper strike and acid copper does temperature of solution has to be higher than room temp? specific amperage or that depends on the amount of solution used in dipping??is it the copper solution I have OK, then nickel, then chrome? Is it possible to do this with a simple kit? thanks for the help |

Well once you have a nice coat of silva spray you must use acid copper temp should be around 110 but follow the directions in the manual the acid copper should allow you to get the surface you want to be able to plate the copy chrome with out the nickle. Your amps depend on the surfface area of the part you are plating not the amount of solution

Thanks for replying with info
last night. I was actually able to plate some small plastic part with nickel and then copy chrome. Doesnt look too nice as the silvaspray has a tendancy to peel off. I just have to get better at it and get some experience. The copper solution that I have is probably not Acid copper. I cant find anything on Caswell or other site about that acid copper. Is it used with the same electroplating principle? Is it called something else? thanks again JF |
