when can you tell when i need to order new cristels
and how long can a batch sit, dose it get old

So long as the solution is kept sealed they last forever. The only thing you will need to add is brightener when needed. Typically brightener gets used at about 10ml per 20 amps plated (heavy plating). Eventually peroxide will build up in the solutuion and the plated result will always come out cloudy regardless of ph and amount of brightener. When this happens, filter the solution through a carbon (charcoal) filter. This will remove all detergents/peroxide and brightener in the solution so you will need to add the recomended amount of brightener for your tank size.

i think you hit it on the nose the last time i filtered it though my crappy carbon fillter it was a little better but didnt think about adding more brightener in
