Does water stain Copy Chrome?

In a effort to determine if I polished right throught the plating on my first piece, I let some water dry on it. It does not appear to have rusted, but there are grey spots that do not rub off. I know that some nickle (like some "stainless") will stain from water drying on it. Does Copy Chrome? Is that why they say to wax it?

Straight from the plating tank with no additional polishing, Copy Chrome will tarnish if water is left to dry on it. Copy chrome should be polished to a high lustre and then waxed and buffed. Generally this will prevent it from tarnishing providing the item is not subjected to a lot of wear. The finer the polised finish the more durable the item will be.
