Stripping paint from Hood Hinge

I have an OEM car hood hinge that is black. Looking at it, it appears to be either baked on or somehow statically applied. Solvents don't seem to phase it. Besides beadblasting, what other method can I use to strip these down to the bare metal? The reason I'm interested in an alternative to beadblast is that my pieces always come out grainy after blasting and I'd rather not have to spend the time needed to sand and buff the piece to a high gloss after blasting. The paint on the piece is very smooth and I assume the bare metal underneath is too if I can just get the paint off without getting into the metal. Thanks for any advice!

Use a can of DeKote it will take any paint off. you can get a can from www.eastwoodcompany.com it's only $10. it's the best stuff i ever used. i wish caswell had it.

You can always blast it with walnut it will only remove the paint and leave the surface intact - chemical paint strippers can be messy if you do it your self. Another alternative is to find a shop that is specilacied in paint removal of dipping type - there are shops that can dipp a whole car but in your case you only need to dip the hinges which is much smaller .

Defintly recommend walnut shells or plastic bead. Also I found Rock Miracle to work great on automotive stuff. I will one time try that dekote stuff.
