Nickle Plating Disc Rotors

Can you nickle plate disc brake rotors at home? will it stand up to the weather? Does it die the metal or rub off w/ brake application?

i'm tired of mine rusting

The plate will turn to dust the second the pads hit it.

Understanding that where the brake pads contact the rotors, you will keep raw steel, are you interested in just plating the "hat" and the area that the pads don't contact?

Then, the plating would hold.

How do you plate one part of the rotor but not the contact part?

You plate the entire rotor and the pads will quickly rub off the plating. In this way, you are protecting the majority of the rotor.

why bother plating an intire rotor when part will be rubbed off the the brake pad anyway.

It doesn't really matter to me. If I can plate the entire rotor and the parts that aren't in contact with the pads hold up, great. If I can only plate the parts that that aren't in contact, that great too. I'm not expecting the plate to remain on the parts that are "grapped" by the pads, but I don't want the rubbing to cause the rest of the plate to peel or flake off.

Whichever way works the easiest is great! Thanks for you help!
