I use the Caswell blue. The result the a clear shiny finish with a slight blue tint. The hardware looks great on my TRIUMPH motorcycles.

I read where some use a clear chromate after they zinc plate using Copy-Cad. I do not see where Caswell sells any clear chromate. Where can I buy some clear?

I know about the blue, but I am trying to find where to get the clear chromate that other people had talked about.
Blue and clear are the same thing. Look at the picture here - Blue - EPI

No ...that's definitely BLUE in the photos Blue - EPI Clear is just that ...CLEAR.
Well I have read that some say use 1/4 of the yellow chromate, and some say to use blue chromate.
'lcaswell' (above) says that clear and blue are the same thing. ()
I think I have to disagree, If it was clear they would call it clear. Everybody says the blue has a blue tint to it, that's why they call it blue.
So am I to believe that all the people on this forum that talk about 'clear chromate' don't know what they are talking about?
I have no idea, but I am beginning to think so !!!!
I guess I am going to have to assume that there is no such thing as 'clear' because nobody can come forward and say where to get it.
So you don\'t believe me for some reason?? Not sure what I\'d have to benefit by lying to you.
I suggest you call EPI and ask them. 262-786-9330
Please be sure to post back what they tell you.
Lying is a pretty strong word and that is NOT what I'm thinking.
My expectations of clear would be without a blue tint.
Caswell list a blue (which I have bought) but they do not list any clear.
So when people talk about clear, this has me confused, so this is why I started the original post, I’ve been trying to find some 'dead-on' clear.
Many people on this forum had talked about using clear, so do they actually mean that they are using blue, and
calling it clear?
If so then their choice of words makes it very confusing to people like me.
To me, if it has a blue tint to it and they list it for sale as "blue" then it is not clear, again that's 'to me'.
But if some people want to call a 'blue tint finish' a 'clear finish', then so be it.
Thanks for the link, but even when I went there, 'Electrochemical Products Inc.', they had no mention of 'clear' anywhere, just yellow, blue and ultra blue.
I will assume that there is no such thing as a 'dead-on' clear chromate, only the blue tint that some refer to and call clear.
If this is the case, then that answers my original post, that there is no 'dead-on' clear chromate offered anywhere, only the blue tint that some are saying
is the same as clear.
But I agree with 'rollsdoctor' (above), "Clear is just that ...CLEAR", and not with a blue tint.
Thanks for you input!
People talk about Pepsi or Microsoft giving you $1.00 to forward a chain email but that doesn't make it true.
People look at zinc plated parts that aren't yellow and call them "clear". The terms "clear" and "blue" have become interchangeable. On the supplier side, the correct term is used, which is "blue" but I do recall seeing "clear" somewhere, probably to make the Pepsi people happy.
As a matter of fact, zinc has a blue tint to it, so there will never be "clear" zinc.![]()
I used to plate Cadmium and I purchased (and used) CLEAR chromate from Udylite Co. (as well as the gold irredescent) Absolutely clear ...with absolutely NO tint. I don't know if they still sell it.
