Default I want to start chrome and or gold plating guns but I have some questions.

Hey I'm new to this forum and to plating in general. I am an amateur gunsmith mostly for myself but I occasionally do work for friends. I am interested getting in to possibly chrome and or gold some firearms. The thing is I have absolutely no clue as to where to start. I noticed that casewell has some plating kits but what would be best for doing an entire gun? I figure that it would be best to start small but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed as to whats out there. Any tips?

HI, I also am working on plating some of my guns. I have an old 1894 winchester that I have disassembled and took the finish off. Its down to bare metal now and I've taken the surface to a poliched surface with 1500 grit wet and dry paper. it gives it a very fine satin finish. Ive tried the brush plating process with poor results. I removed the Brass plating I put on it. it was very thin. Im in the process of getting the brass anodes for doing the tank brass plating. I dont want to spend the big bucks on a rectifier and im not sure which power source I could use. The folks here at caswell are good with helping out but they also want to sell things thats their business.so I believe I need a five amp power source and am wondering if a battery charger with a five amp and twelve volts will work. I really need someone from caswell to say yes that will work. anyway post me if you have some information. Johnny

Battery charger with that kind of voltage definitely will not work, you'll cook the part.
