Default Acceptable Zinc?

What Zinc Metal is acceptable as an Anode? I have seen Sacrificial Anodes for Boats for sale. Can I use them as an anode. Others have said regular non-alkaline D batteries would also contain a Zinc outer casing.

Can anybody tell me how to purify Zinc. By melting (Smelting) etc. Can it be done? At home?

Any help is welcome.

Thanks Mark...

Why would you want to do this?

If you are using a small plating setup, a klunky zinc boat anode will give you poor total surface area. To get the proportion right, you need a thin sheet of zinc - which is what we sell!

I know, The plan is to slice it up in manageable chunks. I have been doing some reasearch and this is the composition of this anode.

MIL-A-18001H (% COMPOSITION)

Element
Aluminum 0.10-0.50
Cadmium 0.025-0.15
Iron (maximum) 0.005
Lead (maximum) 0.006
Copper (maximum) 0.005
Silicon (maximum) 0.125
Zinc remainder

Do you know if all of the other elements will contaminate my Copy
CAD/Zinc bath?

Mark
