Question Re: Scratch repair

I have been over the forum dozens of times searching for an answer to my dilema. I own a few vintage autos that have lots of little chrome parts on the engine not to mention the trim etc. I recently brush plated my chrome oil cap with the Caswell copy chrome brush plating kit. It worked very well, except there is an obvious line where the new chrome meets the old chrome. Anyway of making this transition a bit more seamless without the hassle of mask it etc.? Thanks!

Take your part off the bike. Strip it down to base metal. Then polish it to get the scratches out and buff it to a bright finish. Then replate it as per the Caswell instructions for triple chrome plating on aluminum.Thats the best way.

I cant stress this enough and remember that no plate will stick to chrome so the area you are working with will have to be stripped just the chrome not the nickel or copper underneath another way to fill theses scratches would be silver solder or Caswell’s plum-loy there are also some other products in the Caswell’s catalog that you might look at .
Practice makes perfect
Hope I’ve been able to help
Good luck

So what do you do with the solder? Do you just use it as a filler and polish it?
I have a nice problem I'm dealing with with my newly re-chromed bumper. I posted in the "metal polishing" forum.
