Default Electroless nickel and metal epoxy?

What effect does the nickel plating have on metal parts with something like JB Weld on them? How about for parts that have been soldered together with a tin/silver solder?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with JB Weld.

You should be able to nickel plate directly over tin/silver solder. Was that your question?

JB Weld is actually an epoxy with some metal in it (probably similar to devcon if you've seen that).

I'll probably redo the epoxy parts with soldering.

As a seperate question, how do I mask off a section that I don't want to be plated? Is lacquer going to work?

The resin encapsulates it causing it to be non-conductive.

Sure - lacquer works, tape, doesn't really matter. We sell a masking lacquer - http://www.caswellplating.com/maskit.htm

Steve:
I dont think JB weld will have enough metal in it to conduct for plating.
You will probably have to paint it with conductive paint in that area to get the plating on it.
Good luck

I just copy chrome plated a handle with JB Weld in a bore. It was ignored by the plating process...

See a pic at:

Definitely NOT. The epoxy resin encapsulates all the metal particles rendering them insulated, so they won't plate.

None of these metal filled epoxies will work effectively. Belzona, Devcon, JB, Chesterton, Ciba etc etc!
